Phuket Wind and Tides update for this popular tourist destination in Thailand. During the winter month, the breeze off the Andaman Sea provides many people on the West Coast of Phuket with relief from the heat and humidity of Southeast Asia.
Say thanks to Sir Francis Beaufort.
Francis Beaufort, a naval officer who had served on land and sea, designed an instrument to measure wind speed to determine wave height. He created the principle known today in many water activities: stronger winds = bigger waves; thus if one wants to have a more comfortable water experience, it would be best not to go into rough seas when doing so! The technology of that time permitted him only to measure techniques such as meteorology, which is the science dealing with the atmosphere and its phenomena, including weather and climate.
